RSV STRIKES AGAIN
If you were to go back to last January and look at the blog you would see the post when I got RSV. Who would of thought exactly one year later you'd see the same post only this time MUCH worse. It all started on Monday. I woke up with a little cough. The night before on the news there was a segment about RSV. Mommy thought surely not again. Tuesday I still had the cough but not so bad so she thought maybe it was allergies. Tuesday night at 3am I woke her up coughing and on fire with a temp. of 102. Wednesday I went to the doctor and tested positive for RSV. However, my lungs sounded clear so the doctor said to treat it like a cold. Mommy really wanted to start breathing treatments but she said it wasn't necessary. Wednesday night my breathing became very labored and freaked Mommy out. Thursday morning she went back to the doctor and refused to pay another co-pay for something that I should have gotten on Wednesday so the nurse came out and prescribed breathing treatments. This time Mommy bought the nebulizer just in case I need it in the future.
After a few treatments I was still breathing really hard. At the hospital they called it retracting. Mommy called the nurse again and she said to come in Friday morning. Mommy and Daddy couldn't wait that long. I had consistently had a fever of 102 with alternating Motrin and Tylenol at by this point I was out of it. So they went to the Grace clinic to see what they thought. Needless to say they were very concerned and did chest x-rays. They showed some gunk in my lungs but not as bad as they thought. They gave me another treatment and still no progress so they sent me to the ER. They said if I Mommy had waited any longer I would have probably gone into respiratory distress.
The ER put me on oxygen and gave me three breathing treatments back to back to try to control my breathing. My oxygen level was at 89 -90 and heart rate was 218. Daddy didn't show it but he was freaking out. They finally lowered my fever with a strong dose of Motrin. They brought in a big guy to help hold me down while I got my IV but I didn't put up a fuss which scared Mommy. Slowly but surely my breathing began to slow down. By noon on Friday I was breathing normal again but my oxygen levels were still too low. I couldn't go home until I was eating, drinking and off oxygen. On Saturday they were a little concerned that I hadn't pooped yet. Mommy told them that she didn't think I would do it laying in bed so they unhooked my oxygen and took me to the bathroom and boy did I do my business!! Mommy and Nana were so proud of me.
Here it is Sunday and I'm home!! I can't say that I enjoyed my adventure but I did learn a lot. New words in my vocabulary are IV and oxygen. A few of the things that I did enjoy were brushing my teeth, walking down to the play room and watching the airplane make music, getting to have my old friend paci back (hmmmm I wonder where paci is now?), getting a cure purple hippo from the Christian motorcycle group that came by to give all of the sick kids toys (Gage also got a Spiderman coloring book), and eating applesauce and pears. They were my favorites!
Oh yeah, while we were getting discharged we found out that I also tested positive for pneumonia. Mommy had remember them saying something the first night about that but she thought they were going to test for it. The good news is now I'm on the road to feeling MUCH better.

If you look closely you can see my tummy sticking out.
The scary thing was how fast I was breathing.

Day one. Can't you tell I'm puny?

I figured out how to blow bubbles in my water

Pathetic I know

Brush-a, Brush-a, Brush-a

Gage was such a trooper through all of this too
Day two
Gage
chillin' in bed with me and Mommy

There's the airplane.

Gage got a duck mask to help me feel more comfortable

Here I am in the play room

Day three
Wearing Mommy's shoes around my room

Daddy has the magic touch to get me to sleep

Gage helped give me a breathing treatment

And finally in the car with my new koala bear that my nurse gave me for being so brave
